Telluride Mountain Village, CO
3,002 sq. ft.
Located in Mountain Village near Telluride, this stone and timber home is endowed with nearly 360 degree views, seen through tiers of levels that culminate in the cozy upper living room.
This magnificent residence is perched on a ridge in a very rare spot allowing perhaps the most dramatic views of the area. The structure is built of log, stone, and plaster. Rather than having a pure mountain feel, it also integrates numerous “southwestern” elements that are prevalent in areas just to the south and west of Telluride, beyond the Four Corners into the Grand Canyon. Much of the texture of the exterior was inspired by numerous structures of the Grand Canyon, including the old lodge that burned down in the twenties. Hovering at the top level is a tower office with 360 degree views. Below this level are two master bedroom suites that also have panoramic views. An elevator connects each level, including the lower level that contains guest bedrooms, a workout room, a wine cellar, and a cave-like theater. The main living level comprises logs used in post and beam fashion, rather than stacked like log cabins. This allows uninterrupted views of the surrounding valley/mountains. A great room contains a spatially separate living, dining and kitchen area, with a breakfast nook that protrudes out over the precipice. A large billiard room is also open to this living area, allowing a communal feel even during game time. Extensive terraces and an intricate log entry structure highlight the massing and use of natural materials. This house is approximately 8000 square feet and contains five bedrooms.
